Proud to unveil
The PDE2000
The gadget you never knew you needed!
With 3 colored light switches that can be controlled remotely!
We (marketing) wanted to launch today, but you know who (legal) discovered we need to comply with some EU law (Cyber Resilience Act) first…
We're still confident we're launching soon, because how hard can it be? The PDE2000 will be placed on the EU market the moment it complies with the Cyber Resilience Act.
The product
The PDE2000 is a Raspberry Pi with some LEDs wired to GPIO pins. The design spec specifically required only using parts I had lying around. Still, the PDE2000 has a cutting edge (whatever that means, marketing said we could use the word) connection to the internet, with an online portal to remotely control the LEDs.
Retail value
€40 (used parts only!)
CRA compliance status
Unknown (we better check this soon)
What is this?
"Placing on the market" (meaning: starting to sell within the EU) is the legal trigger for CRA obligations. These obligations require products with digital elements to be built with security in mind.
Because the CRA is new, many organisations have a lot of questions around what is actually required and how they can comply with CRA.
I'll be working through getting the PDE2000 compliant with CRA in the coming weeks. All so we can make marketing happy ;-)
